Members of the Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission made plans for several upcoming events to be held in the Clover Fork area during a recent meeting.
The first event scheduled and hosted annually by the tourist commission is their Fourth of July Parade. This year’s event will be held on July 4 with lineup beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will be held at dark at the football field in north Evarts. Members encourage everyone to make plans to either participate or attend to show their patriotism.
“We’d love to see all first responders and Harlan County military personnel participate in this year’s event,” said chairperson Janice Napier. “Each year the event has grown and we hope this year will be even better.”
Also discussed was the upcoming and annually hosted Labor Day Festival. Tourism clerk Kristi Lamb said “people are already calling asking for booth prices.” Members approved booth prices at $20 for those requiring water and/or electricity for their space and $10 for booths with no utilities.
Members also approved the purchase of four 12 foot long folding tables, at a cost of $50 each from Lisa Middleton, to be used during the Labor Day Festival.
“Set up with begin at 10 a.m. and the festival will run from noon to 10 p.m. — the same as last year,” said Lamb.
A lengthy discussion was held about entertainment for the event. No decisions were made at this time in order to finalize plans for the Fourth of July Parade.
In other commission actions:
*Approved the purchase of a half-page advertisement at a cost of $60 for the Harlan County Shriners’ Horse Show event;
*Discussed coal severance funds they are expecting to receive in the near future;
*Discussed upcoming Ramp Festival, saying cooking begins at 2 p.m. and food will be served at 5 p.m. on Saturday. For those who don’t want to eat ramps, hot dogs and hamburgers will be on the menu.
