The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office located and eradicated a stand of marijuana plants on Wednesday.
According to Det. Sgt. Jason Snelling, the marijuana was located in the Wallins Creek area.
“We seized 15 marijuana plants from Creeches Mountain in Wallins Creek,” said Snelling. “We received a tip from our drug tip line and we followed up on it. After about an hour walking in the woods we discovered these 15 plants.”
Snelling said there are no leads at this time as to the identity of the growers.
“We continue to ask that everyone call the tip line with complaints. Even though they don’t see the results as soon as they make the call we are working on them, and we encourage them to continue to call,” said Snelling.
Snelling said Det. Danny Ball was also involved in the eradication.
Sheriff Marvin Lipfird explained that all tips are followed up on.
“Obviously we’ve taken a more active approach to marijuana eradication in the county this year,” said Lipfird. “If anyone has any tips or any suspicion that there may be someone growing marijuana in or around any properties that they own or know about, just give us a call here at the sheriff’s office. We take all calls serious and check them all out.”
