The Harlan County Lady Black Bears made it a perfect district run in volleyball on Thursday and said good-bye to four seniors with a 25-18, 25-15 win over visiting Bell County.

“The girls were looking forward to Senior Night and I think they played really well together,” said Harlan County coach Donna Vicini. “It makes us 6-0, so we swept the district and I’m very proud of them.”

The Lady Bears were led by senior Cara Middleton in the opening set with two tips, an ace and three points. Chyanna Harris added a spike, an ace and three points. Whitney Stevens had a kill and two points while Keisha Mimes collected a kill.

The second set was played evenly with the score tied at 14 before Harlan reeled off six straight points and went on for the victory.

All six starters for HCHS shined in the final set. Middleton had two tips, a spike, two aces and five points for the Lady Bears. Harris added a spike, two aces and three points. Breanna Dunson collected three tips, two aces and two points while Stevens one spike, one ace, a kill and a point. Mimes had two kills. Rebecca Eldridge added a spike and one point.

Bell County (4-2, 6-17) will participate in the Steak-N-Shake Tournament at North Laurel on Saturday and will close the regular season Tuesday at home against Clay County.

The 52nd District Tournament will be held at Middlesboro High School.

Harlan County won 21-13, 21-14 in the junior varsity game.

“The JV did pretty good tonight,” said Vicini. “Our serve was a little bit off tonight, but they’re coming along. They’ve worked hard, and have developing into a varsity team.”

Harlan County (6-0 district, 14-8 overall) closes out its regular season Monday at Whitley County.
