Fresh off of two close losses, the Lynn Camp Wildcats would have been just the team the Harlan Green Dragons wanted to see on the schedule in past seasons. However, this year’s Lynn Camp squad is dramatically improved.

“Lynn Camp is playing with a lot of confidence. They have a new coach and run a new system and have got some excitement among those kids. They are really buying into it,” said Harlan coach J.B. Donahue. “This has been a focused week of practice - it has been quiet, but focused. We went back and done a lot of fundamental work, and hopefully it pays off this week.”

After going win-less in 2011, Lynn Camp opened the season with a victory over East Ridge and is coming off of an upset over Pineville just last week.

“We are a senior team with great kids. The best thing I have found out is that no wins doesn’t necessarily mean the cupboard is bare when it comes to talent,” said first-year Lynn Camp coach Phil Russell. “They have really bought into the wide-open system. We have opened the offense into a spread, and I am just pleased the kids bought into what we are doing.”

For the Green Dragons to get back on track toward the lofty goals of the preseason, the offensive side of the ball must get back in sync after a disappointing performance in last week’s loss to Middlesboro.

“We have got to get meshing again offensively. We didn’t execute or have any timing offensively last week,” Donahue said. “I thought we played well enough to win defensively, we just have to get in sync on offense.”

If the Wildcats are to keep the Dragons offense from rebounding this week, Russell said the Lynn Camp defense must limit senior quarterback Ty Saragas.

“Saragas is a talented quarterback. We have to contain him,” Russell said. “No matter who we are playing, we have to try to get 11 hats on the football. We have to be as physical as we can and try to outhit our opponent.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
