New Executive Director of the Kentucky Office Of Mine Safety and Licensing, Freddie Lewis (above), gave a rousing speech during this year’s KEMI (Kentucky Employers Mutual Insurance) Mine Rescue Competition awards presentation in Pikeville. He thanked the dedication and resolve of coal miners across The Commonwealth, particularly the devotion of mine rescue team members. His inspiring words received a standing ovation. The Harlan County Safety Days will be July 24-26 at the Cumberland Campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College. KCA Mine Rescue Team Member Patrick Gomez won first place in the bench contest. Gomez is currently the National Champion in Mine Rescue Bench.
