With a senior class full of skill players, Harlan’s Cody Logan has had to patiently wait his turn to carry the offense load for the Green Dragons. The senior running back has certainly taken full advantage of that opportunity this season.

Logan led the Green Dragons with 679 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries during the regular season. He also had four touchdowns to lift the Dragons to a victory over Lynn Camp in the first round of the Class A playoffs last week.

“Cody has really given us a good avenue to run the ball. He has been a more physical runner and is running harder between the tackles this year,” said Harlan coach J.B. Donahue.

Logan has played in the backfield throughout much of his career at Harlan, but the Green Dragons have relied on him even more this season.

“Demarcus (Williams) got hurt so I took the opportunity and ran with it,” Logan said. “It is a credit to the offensive line. You can’t go anywhere if you don’t have a hole to run through.”

Donahue said Logan has adjusted well to his heavier work load.

“He has really developed as a runner. He has kind of blossomed and evolved into that role,” he said.

Logan said it is his vision that allows him to succeed on the football field.

“I am not the biggest back, so I try to use my vision,” he said. “I make one cut and go and try to make people miss.”

Much like his growth as a ball-carrier, Donahue said Logan has also developed as a leader for the Green Dragons.

“He has really grown into a leadership role,” he said. “He has talked with me about being a leader, and I think he has really grown in that category. I think he tries to be a positive leader for our football team.”

Logan and the Green Dragons will travel to Williamsburg in the second round of the Class A playoffs on Friday.
