Lady Dragons burn Whitley County

The Harlan Lady Dragons quickly recovered from Monday’s district loss to Bell County with a 15-2 rout of Whitley County on Tuesday.

The Lady Dragons opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning.

Madison led off the inning with a double to center field. Noe stole third and scored on a single from Anna Karst. Torri Mitchell reached based on an error that brought home Karst. Alyssa Mills then reached on an error to third. Mitchell score on the play.

After a Whitley County run in the third inning, Harlan went back up by three runs with one in the fourth inning.

Kaitlin Jenkins singled to start the offense. She stole second and scored on a bunt single from Kaylee McNiel.

The Lady Dragons extended their lead with another run in the fifth inning.

Heather Holland singled to start the inning. Holland reached on an outfield single from Mitchell. Mills followed with a single to drive in Holland.

Harlan closed the game with 10 runs in the sixth inning.

Jenkins led off the inning with a single. Shanae Thomas was then hit by a pitch. McNiel delivered another bunt single to drive in Jenkins. Noe singled to the outfield to bring home Thomas and McNiel. Noe stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. Karst put runners on the corners with a walk. Holland singled to drive in the baserunners. Mitchell also drew a walk. Jourdan Ledford drove in two runs with a deep single. Jenkins reached base on an error in her second time up in the inning. Ledford scored on the play. Thomas then reached on a throwing error. McNiel put down another bunt single to score Mitchell. Noe followed with another single to score Thomas.

Whitley responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to extend the game.

Noe recorded three strikeouts, while scattering six hits and issuing one walk in the complete-game victory on the mound.

Noe with the Lady Dragons with a double and two singles. McNiel contributed three singles. Holland and Jenkins each contributed two singles, while Karst, Thomas, Mitchell, Ledford, Mills.

Harlan (5-4) returns to action Friday at home against Middlesboro in 52nd District action. Whitley County (3-9) will host Corbin today.
