Harlan County closed a successful week-long road trip with yet another win on Friday. The Lady Bears picked up their sixth victory in the last seven days with a 10-1 rout of Barbourville.

“It has been a long week for us. We have played seven in a row on the road. It has been a good streak. All these games in the streak have been away games, and to play that good on the road is a good thing,” said Harlan County coach Tim McElyea. “I think everybody is coming together. I just hope we can continue to be competitive.”

Harlan County opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Kaitlyn Stittums reached base with a walk. She stole second base and scored on a single by Bridget Robinson. Tia King followed with a single of her own, before Savannah Sergent drove in the final run with a base hit.

Barbourville made it 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning. However, that was the only run of the game for the Lady Tigers. Harlan County responded with two runs in third inning to go up by three runs.

King and Sergent started the offense with back-to-back singles. King scored on a RBI groundout from Farren Clark. Chyanna Harris drove in Sergent with another RBI groundout.

Harlan County added another run in the fourth inning.

Katie Johnson doubled and later scored on a single from King.

The Lady Bears put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth inning.

Sergent, Harris and Jessie Johnson all singled to load the bases. Regan Nease followed with another single to bring home the first run of the inning. Stittums drove in two runs with a single, and Robinson closed the scoring with a RBI single.

Harlan County closed the game with another run in the seventh inning.

Robinson singled to start the offense. Brandi Simpson followed with a single, and Whitley Wynn doubled to score Robinson.

King and Sergent each had three singles to lead Harlan County at the plate. Stittums contributed a double and a single. Harris and Robinson delivered two singles. Wynn and Katie Johnson each recorded a double. Nease, Simpson and Jessie Johnson each added a single.

Katie Johnson struck out eight batters, while allowing just six hits in six innings to earn the win. Destinee Jenkins recorded three strikeouts in just one inning of relief.

Harlan County (10-8) returns to action Monday at home against Jenkins, while Barbourville (3-14) will travel to Bell County.
