An investigation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in an Evarts man being charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Kevin Burkhart, 27, was arrested by deputy Chris Brewer on Thursday.
A press release from the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office states the arrest is the result of a two-month investigation into the illegal sale of crystal methamphetamine.
According to the release, deputies received information that Burkhart was selling crystal methamphetamine in Jones Creek. Deputies gathered information on this activity leading to the execution of a search warrant at Burkhart’s residence.
The search resulted in the confiscation of marijuana, several pills and a crystal type powder that thought to be crystal methamphetamine, the release stated.
The case is under investigation by Deputy Mitch Alford.
Alford was assisted in the investigation by Sheriff Marvin Lipfird, Sgt. Miron Southerland, deputies Matt Cope and Chris Brewer. They were accompanied by members of the chaplain’s corps.
Burkhart was charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance (methamphetamine), third-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Burkhart was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
In other police activity:
* Jacob Bennett, 20, of Evarts, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs on Thursday and charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration.
Bennett was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;
* John Delph, 29, of Lejunior, was arrested by Evarts City Police Assistant Chief Owen Noe on Thursday and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in proper container, driving on a DUI suspended licence, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to appear (Bell County).
Delph was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
