Man charged with unlawful transaction with a minor

A Harlan man faces charges including unlawful transaction with a minor following alleged incidents dating from October and November. Shawn Vick, 22, was arrested on a warrant Wednesday by Harlan City Police Officer Will Pope and charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

The complaint states on Oct. 31, Vick unlawfully had intentional contact with a 16-year-old after being instructed by her father not to be around the minor. The complaint further states Vick was in the father’s home with the intent to commit a crime on Nov. 16.

According to the warrant, Vick has been told numerous times not to have any contact or communication with the girl, but refuses to stay away.

Vick was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.

In other police activity:

* Mary Ward, 29, of Cawood, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Mitch Alford on charges of theft of identity of another without consent, operating on a suspended of revoked operator’s license, failure to produce an insurance card and giving an officer a false name or address.

According to the indictment, Ward “knowingly used or possessed current or former identifying information of Misty S. Huff with intent to represent that she was Misty S. Huff for the purpose of obtaining benefits to which she was otherwise not entitled.” Ward was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond;

* Nelson Brock, 35, of Bledsoe, was arrested by Harlan City Police Officer Britt Ross on Wednesday and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, alcohol intoxication in a public place, prescription controlled substance not in proper container and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brock was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Sara Brock, 34, of Bledsoe, was arrested by Harlan City Police Sgt. George Young on Wednesday on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and alcohol intoxication in a public place. Brock was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Harold Freeman, 46, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan City Police Cpl. Jeff Owens on Tuesday on a charge of theft by deception including cold checks under $10,000. Freeman was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $5,000 full cash bond.
