Staff Report
Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Burton arrested a Virgina man Monday evening after he overturned a loaded a coal truck on U.S. 421 at Cranks. Burton said he was operating the truck under the influence of alcohol.
KSP Sgt. Jeremy Lee said the Post 10 troopers were dispatched to the scene of a crash where the fully loaded semi-tractor trailer 2005 International Eagle had overturned in someone’s yard.
Lee said during Burton’s investigation, he found that the operator of the truck was Timothy Shepherd, of Pennington Gap, Va. “Mr. Shepherd failed to negotiate a turn on U.S. 421 causing the tractor trailer to leave the right side of the roadway, roll onto its right side and dump its full load of coal onto private property,” Lee said. “Upon further investigation, Tpr. Burton obtained reason to believe that Mr. Shepherd was under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested him.”
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and failure to maintain insurance card.
Lee said Shepherd’s destination was Louisville.
The crash remains under investigation by Burton. He was assisted at the scene by troopers Josh Brashears and Josh Howard.
