Cumberland River, a Harlan based national touring band will be featured on Kentucky Educational Television’s (KET) Kentucky Life TV program premiering Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
The performance was filmed at the Benham Schoolhouse Inn during the recent Harlan County Safety Days held in the Tri-Cities area. The program will rebroadcast on Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Sept. 25, at 7:30 a.m., Sept. 26, at 8 a.m., Sept. 28, at 12:30 p.m. and Sept. 29 at 6 a.m.
“We are stoked and thrilled about our KET performance,” said band member James Dean. “It was exciting to have these guys from KET here to video our performance. They were professional and some of the best bunch of guys we have worked with. We have a lengthy schedule ahead of us. We’ve picked up a lot of dates during the winter months, which is normally a slow time for bluegrass bands. We’re moving forward and growing as a band.”
Receiving the Band On the Rise Nationally (B.O.R.N) Award by National Bluegrass, band member Joey Jones said they will be heading to Nashville, Tenn., next week for a performance at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Fanfest.
The band is also working on a new album they hope to have released sometime in 2013.
“We’ll be hitting the stage on Sept. 28 at the World Chicken Festival’s Stage of Stars in London,” said Jones. “We’ll also be performing live at the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival in Manteo, N.C., and the Outer Banks After Party held at the Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., on Oct. 6.”
Cumberland River may also be seen on the upcoming Rural Rhythm Records’ TV production “Christmas The Mountain Way,” which will be a live performance showcasing Christmas and its traditions in the Appalachian Mountains.
“Our performance was filmed at the historic Bell Theater in Pineville for broadcast on national cable network BlueHighways TV and will air in November and December,” said Jones. “The live concert event was hosted by Mike Scott and also includes performances by Marty Raybon, Audie Blaylock, Dale Ann Bradley, Steve Gulley, Common Strings, students of the Cumberland River Academy and many more.”
Jones said during their BlueHighways TV appearance, they will be performing an original Christmas song written about how band members enjoyed Christmas in Harlan County called “A Mountain Christmas.”
“We are living our dream,” said Jones. “We love the support of our Harlan County fans. We take Harlan County every where we go.”
