Volunteers from Girl Scout Troup 1206 and Cub Scout Pack 149 assist in the cleanup of Martins Fork Lake on Saturday. The cleanup was part of the National Public Lands Day celebration. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resource Manager Dave Robinson said, “It is a nationwide effort for public lands for folks to come out and clean up and beautify our nation’s public lands. Today some of our volunteers include The Appalachian ChalleNGe Academy. We have some Cub Scouts from Pack 149 and Holy Trinity Church, and we’ve also got a group of Girl Scouts from the Wallins area. We also have the 4-H crew with Raymond and Donna Cox.”

The grill is lit and cooks are hard at work grilling hot dogs to feed workers who performed the cleanup of the shore and general area around Martins Fork Lake on Saturday. Resource Manager Dave Robinson said the event is held each year on the fourth Saturday in September. “It’s sponsored by the National Environmental Education Foundation. A lot of the Corps lakes in the Nashville district participate in Public Lands Day. It’s a nationwide effort,” said Robinson.
