The Harlan Lady Dragons hit the ball well enough to knock Leslie County on Thursday —their fielding wasn’t quite as impressive. Harlan committed six costly errors in a 13-10 loss to the visiting Lady Eagles.
Leslie County opened the scoring with a six run outburst in the first inning. However, Harlan responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Madison Noe led off the inning with a single. Anna Karst followed with a walk. Heather Holland drove in the first run of the game with a single. Torri Mitchell then drew a walk to load the bases. Shanae Thomas also drew a walk to force in a run. Ledford drove in the final three runs with a double.
Harlan took the lead with a pair of runs in the second inning.
Karst was hit by a pitch in the first at-bat. Holland followed with her second single. Karst later scored on a fielder’s choice. Holland later scored on a fielder’s choice.
Leslie County tied the game at seven in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Dragons went back up with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Noe provided all of the offense for Harlan with an inside-the-park homer to the fence in center field.
Leslie County regained control with four more runs in the seventh inning. The Lady Eagles tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to push the lead to 13-8.
Harlan mounted a comeback in the seventh inning. Mitchell reached base first with a walk. She stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. Mitchell scored when Thomas hit into a fielder’s choice. Ledford then reached base with a double. Kaylee McNiel drove in the run with a single. Alyssa Mills followed with a single. Noe then put the tying run on base with two outs when she reached on a fielder’s choice. However, Anna Karst popped out in the next at-bat to end the threat.
Noe had an inside-the-park home run and two singles to lead Harlan at the plate. Ledford delivered two doubles. Holland recorded a pair of singles, while McNiel and Mills each added a single.
Madison Brewer struck out three batters in two innings in the start. Noe recorded five strikeouts in relief.
Harlan (5-8) will face Whitley County in the Middlesboro Invitational today. Leslie County (8-5) will host Owsley County on Monday.
