An alleged domestic dispute led to a man being shot by a Lynch police officer Friday night.
The man who was shot multiple times has been identified by a neighbor near the shooting scene as Mike Blair. When checking on Blair’s condition on Monday at Holston Valley Medical Center, in Kingsport, Tenn., the Enterprise was told he had been discharged from the hospital.
The shooting incident occurred around 10 p.m. Friday night on West Main Street in Lynch.
According to a Kentucky State Police press release, upon arrival at the scene, a man was identified sitting inside of a vehicle outside of the residence. The officer with the Lynch Police Department approached the vehicle and observed the man was aiming a shotgun at him. The officer then discharged his service weapon at the perpetrator, striking him multiple times. The suspect was then taken into custody after KSP Post 10 troopers and Harlan County deputies arrived on the scene. He was transported from the scene by EMS and was later flown to Holston Valley for further treatment.
KSP Sgt. Jackie Pickrell is currently conducting the investigation into the incident. Criminal charges are pending. No one else involved received any injuries.
Lynch Police Chief Mike Nunley said Saturday morning, after a brief conversation between the officer and the man, an exchange of gunfire engaged.
The officer requested assistance and Kentucky State Police troopers, Harlan County Sheriff deputies, Benham and Cumberland police officers responded.
Nunley requested that the Kentucky State Police investigate the shooting.
Attempts to reach Blair for comment on Monday were not successful.
