Recreation board plans 5K run
An outdoor foot race is in the works for Harlan this summer. The Harlan County Recreation Board began making plans for a 5K race during a meeting Wednesday. Board member Ronnie Shoope advised the board of tentative plans for the event. “We’re going to have that race to kick start July 4,” said Shoope. “The race is June 29, the weekend before the fourth.” Shoope said the race will be called the 2013 Black Mountain Thunder 5K Challenge. ...

Much needed repairs to the city’s water system is causing concern for members of the Lynch City Council. The trial of a Partridge man accused of rape, sexual abuse and criminal abuse has been postponed. James Ferguson, 24, appeared in Harlan Circuit Court on Tuesday to stand trial on charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor. This is the second trial for Ferguson on these charges.
