College stages mock disaster drill

The event utilized the proficiency of first responders from throughout Harlan County as well as providing training for SKCTC nursing students and those enrolled in the school’s Funeral Service Program. Responders and students reacted to a tornado strike scenario as well as a chemical fire situation with students playing the role of victims.


Labor Dept. cuts levels of allowable coal dust

New life possible for downtown building

A downtown building may be getting a new lease on life following a meeting of the Harlan City Council on Monday.Robert Gipe addressed the council on behalf of Harlan 20/20 to request the city sign a lease on the old Modern Electric building located at Central Street and First Street.Gipe said the plan was to use the building to hold classes, performing arts events and other such uses in conjunction with Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.“...

Soldier’s remains returned to Paducah for burial

PADUCAH (AP) — The remains of a Paducah soldier, who disappeared during World War II, have been sent home.WPSD-TV reports the remains of William T. Carneal, which were discovered in Saipan, arrived back in Paducah on Tuesday.
