Charles Russell Wallace, 89, Evarts, died May 3, 2003, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

A native of Wilton, he had lived in Evarts most of his life. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a retired school bus driver for the Harlan County Board of Education. He was a member of the Evarts Baptist Church and was very active in the Evarts High School Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maggie Surgener Wallace; a sister, Betty Wallace Rike; and a brother, Herbert Wallace.

Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Emma Williams Wallace, Evarts; a daughter, Gloria Jean Leonard and her husband, Clarence, Beaver Dam, a granddaughter, Amy Sims, Owensboro; a great-grandchild, Morgan Herzog, Owensboro; and a brother, Roger Wallace, Tulsa, Okla.

Visitation will be held today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Evarts Baptist Church with the reverends Jeff Shouse and Larry Parker officiating.

Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Evarts Baptist Church or to the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, 10200 Linn Station Road, Louisville, KY 40223.
