Ida Maxine Pollitte Pope, 83, Harlan, died Aug. 23, 2003, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

A native of Harlan, Pope was a former co-owner of Pope Insurance Agency and a former partner in Pollitte Insurance Agency.

She was a graduate of Harlan High School and Stratton Business College in Louisville. She was also a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Harlan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Pope Sr.; her parents, Edward Dulin and Marie Anno Pollitte; two brothers, J.J. Pollitte and Bert Ed Pollitte; and four sisters, Jean Pollitte Pope, Edda Doug Bray, Mary Evelyn Nichols and Francis Eloise Pollitte.

Survivors include a daughter, Ginny Goss and husband, Tim, Harlan; four sons: Albert Pope and wife, Nancy; Thomas R. Pope and wife, Clara, all of Harlan; Edward M. Pope, Harrogate, Tenn.; and the Rev. Roy M. Pope Jr. and wife, Zoe Anne, Fresno, Calif.; 15 grandchildren: Jay Pope, Pasadena, Calif.; Robyn Arnold, Macon, Ga.; Jordan Pope, Nicholas Mendes-Pope, Nathan Mendes-Pope and Hilary Pope, all of Fresno, Calif.; Colby Goss, Keenan Goss, A.K. Goss, Colin Goss, Tara Brittany Pope, Mary Elizabeth Pope, Thomas Ryland Pope and William Pope, all of Harlan; and Anne Lindsey, Lexington; and three great-grandchildren: Jackson and Quinn Pope and Shane Lindsey.

Visitation will be held Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Harlan from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Fred Griffie officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Harlan are welcome in lieu of flowers.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
