Vernon Farmer, 76, Wallins, died Sept. 8, 2003, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Farmer was a disabled coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a member of the Wallins Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Gambrel Farmer; his wife, Nona Alelfair Farmer; one daughter, Althea Farmer; three brothers: Thomas Farmer, James Gordon Farmer and Robert Farmer Jr.

Survivors include seven children: Carl Farmer, Wallins; Jerry Farmer and wife, Brenda, Wallins; McKinley Farmer and wife, Chevelle, Wallins; James Farmer and wife, Susan, San Angelo, Texas; Sheila Adams and husband, Dock, Whitesburg; Katherine Robinson and husband, Troy, Harrogate, Tenn.; Christine Brooks and husband, John, Meridian, Miss.; three brothers: Britton Farmer, Wallins; Clifford Farmer, Wallins; and Frank Farmer, Buffalo; five sisters: Jean Patrick, Buffalo; Opal Pennachio, Buffalo; Nora Marlowe, Harlan; Vina Duncan, Louisville; Betty Sue Scott, Hickory, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will also be conducted Wednesday. starting at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Farmer and the Rev. John Cardwelll officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Park-Howard Cemetery in Wallins.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
