Chester Lee "Chek" Cress, 82, Benham, died Sept. 30, 2003, at his home.

A retired coal miner. He worked for U.S. Steel and O'Rourk Coal Company for 39 years. He was a member of the Park Road Pentecostal Church and U.M.W.A. Local No. 7425.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elihu and Maudie Caudill Cress.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Raglin Cress, Benham; five children: Sharon Gail Creech, Portage, Ind.; Judy McKnight, Partridge; Sandra Kay Gross, London; Tommy Lee Cress, Cumberland; and Danny Wayne Cress, Tazewell, Tenn.; a brother, Homer Cress, Linefork; two sisters: Dorothy Brogdon, Hiram; and Angelia Sergent, Cumberland; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is today from 2 until 9 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Thursday at Tri-City Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Blair, the Rev. Billy Boggs, the Rev. Roger Ison and the Rev. Willie Harrison officiating.

Burial will follow in the Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Cumberland.

Pallbearers will include Danny Cress, Bobby "B.J." Gross, Randall Tackett,, Walter Craig, Elihu "Butch" Cress and Roger Banks.

Honorary pallbearers will include Tommy Gross, Lawrence Creech, Paul Creech, Cole Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Harley Deals, Shaylor Seals, Ethan Cress, Joshua Hatfield, Jessie Hatfield; Jason Creech, Brian Creech and Brandon Creech.

Tri-City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
