The win, which gave the Cumberland a final record of 20-0, allowed the Lady Skins to exact revenge over the Tigerettes, who knocked off Cumberland 30-27 in last year's championship game.
After the game, Cumberland coach Betty Russell credited her team's AAU experience for their memorable year, noting that they finished fifth in the state in AAU play.
"They've worked hard all year. They go in and work hard each and every day. This is the best team I've ever coached," said Russell, who wrapped up her ninth and final season with the team.
The Lady Skins capitalized on 25 turnovers by Black Mountain and were able to overcome 22 of their own.
Cumberland set the tone for the game in the first quarter, outscoring the Tigerettes 15-4 and forcing 10 turnovers. Samantha Sexton scored seven points in the period and Ewanna Wilson added four for Cumberland.
Sexton knocked down six of her 17 shots and led all scorers with 15 points in the game. She also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Tigerettes stayed basically even with the Lady Skins throughout the final three quarters, but Cumberland's first-quarter advantage was enough to keep them on top.
Black Mountain coach Jeff Cochran credited Russell for Cumberland's win.
"I thought they played a real good game. She's a good coach always has been. She deserves to win," he said.
Cochran noted his team's improvement after the dismal first quarter.
"The 11 points they were up by after the first quarter is what they won by at the end of the game. If we'd been more aggressive in the first quarter, we might have been in it at the end," he said.
Cumberland was able to keep Johnnie Parker, who usually leads Black Mountain in scoring, from becoming much of a factor. Parker finished with one point.
Miranda Massingill paced the Tigerettes with seven points.
Cawood takes third with win over Wallins
In the tournament's consolation game, Cawood took third place with a 27-15 win over Wallins.
Jennifer Hensley scored a game-high 15 points for the Lady Comets, and Kayla Roddy added six.
Patty Hensley scored six points to lead the Lady Devils.
