But the Jackets got defensive Tuesday to claim a 61-54 win over host Cumberland.
Middlesboro came into the game as the second-highest scoring team in the 13th Region. Meanwhile, the Jackets have given up the most points of any team in the region, over 75 points per game.
Against the defending regional champs, however, it was the defense that carried Middlesboro as the Redskins were hurried into 22 turnovers and shot 42 percent (23 of 52) from the field.
Middlesboro also shot poorly, hitting at a 40 percent (22 of 55) clip, but connected on 12 of 17 free throws for the game, including seven of eight in the fourth quarter. The Jackets also committed only three turnovers in the final period.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Yellow Jackets, whose last win came Dec. 16 at Harlan.
