Elliott, cold shooting doom Cawood; Senior center's 27-point, 14-rebound effort lifts Jackson

A loss to Rockcastle County in the 49th District championship game resigned Jackson County to runner-up status, but Thursday's game against Cawood proved that the Lady Generals are at least the second-best team in the region.

Jackson County held the Trojanettes to 27 percent (13-for-49) shooting as they rolled to a 66-37 win in the first round of the 13th Region Tournament.

Standout center Sarah Elliott dominated for the Lady Generals. The 6-foot-6 senior poured in a game-high 27 points, almost all from within 2 feet of the basket, and pulled down 14 rebounds. But Cawood coach Bucky Burkhart pointed to another statistic as the difference in the game.

"We were trying to defend against their 3-point shooting. They shot the ball extremely well and we didn't," Burkhart said.
