A lack of classroom space at Harlan Elementary School was the primary issue at Thursday's meeting of the Harlan Independent School Board.
"The number of enrolled students have been growing over the years," said Donna Bushnell, principal of Harlan Elementary School.
"The school does not have adequate space for the students."
According to Bushnell, both the kindergarten and the special-needs students needed more space. She suggested acquiring a mobile classroom that would provide two rooms for school use.
The building would cost $22,000 to purchase, deliver and maintain and include the rent for one year.
"The measurements would need to be re-checked to make sure it (the building) would fit," said board member Parker Boggs.
"Call the planning committee and see what they decide after measuring," said Board chairman, Joe Meadors.
Aside from problems with space, placing the building behind the existing school would require the removal of playground equipment, which would pose another problem, said Meadors.
