New York men arraigned on drug charges

Two Niagra Falls, N.Y. men accused of trafficking OxyContin in Harlan County were arraigned in Harlan Circuit Court on Tuesday.

George D. Maggard, 65, pleaded guilty to first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and Edward H. Weston Sr., 51, pleaded not guilty to first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

The two men were arrested May 12 by Harlan City Police Sgt. Brian Maas after Constable Frank Pennington advised the city police that the men were allegedly selling OxyContin in the area.

At the time of the arrests, over $11,000 in cash, 42 20-milligram OxyContin tablets from Canada and 28 80-milligram OxyContin tablets were seized.

In other court action:

n Jamie Michelle Bennett, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument;

n Rodney M. Mott pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school.

Pursuant to a plea agreement, Mott was sentenced to 12 months on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently for a total of 12 months;

n Michael Honeycutt Sr., 39, pleaded not guilty to first-degree trafficking a controlled substance.

n Todd Clayton Maggard, 19, pleaded not guilty to first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespassing and two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening.
