He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masons 879 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington and Harlan Eastern Star 237.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Lola Mae Rains Asher; and his stepfather, Walter Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Lowe Asher, Harlan; three children: James Asher, Lexington; Mary Asher, Harlan; and Noah Asher and wife, Michelle, Harlan; seven grandchildren: Brendon Lee Asher, Allison Asher, Bradley Asher, Leanna Asher, Courtney Asher, Taylor Asher and Shanisa Williams; two brothers: Bob Asher and wife, Sandy, Harlan; and Bud Asher and wife, Willie Mae, Harlan; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson & Laws Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson & Laws Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roy McNiel officiating.
Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Asher Cemetery in Watts Creek with Masonic Services being observed by the Harlan Masonic Lodge 879 F.&A.M.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Deaton, Don Deaton II, Morris Edward Deaton, Curtis Browning, Noble Jones, Joe Snapp and Oscar Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital in Lexington or to the Sunshine Baptist Church building fund.
