The game began in a 3-point contest, with the first 15 points of the game coming from behind the arc. For every trey Buckhorn hit in the first quarter, Harlan's John Smith answered with his own. Smith poured in 11 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter.
Harlan led by just one point at the beginning of the second quarter, but Ryan Clem scored four points to spark a 10-2 run by the Dragons. Buckhorn never let the lead get too far away, as the Wildcats quickly worked the ball up the floor after Harlan baskets.
The teams swapped buckets for the remainder of the half, which concluded with Harlan leading 32-24.
The Wildcats came out of the break fired up, scoring a couple of fast baskets, but Harlan's Jon Graham, who started in place of junior Casey Huff, cooled the run with back-to-back treys.
