A native of Harlan County, he was an iron worker of 40 years and believed in the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Gilbert and Hettie Carroll Gilbert; and one daughter, Alice "Suzy" Zimmer.

Survivors include five children: Lori Petitjean and husband, Marcus, Russia, Ohio; Eric Gilbert, Ft. Larmie, Ohio; Pam Marx and husband, Chris, Brookeville, Ohio; Dave Gilbert, Dayton, Ohio; and Derek Gilbert, St. Mary's, Ohio; one brother, Jesse Gilbert Jr. and wife, Lavana, Kalamazoo, Mich.; one sister, Maxine Clark, Beaver Creek, Ohio; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the chapel of Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens.
