An Enterprise Staff Report

Members of the Harlan County Ridge Runners gathered Friday on Black Mountain Recreational Park, not to sling mud and raise dust, but to remember those injured and killed in recent ATV accidents.

During the past few weeks, at least seven people have been injured and one person killed in local ATV accidents.

The first accident, two weekends ago at Martins Fork, put four people in the hospital. The driver, Tilman Greene, died a week later from his injuries.

The following weekend, Billy Brock was struck by a van in Coldiron when he lost control of his ATV, putting him in critical condition at Holston Valley Medical Center. He is now listed to be in fair to good condition.

Four were injured the next day on Black Mountain Recreational Park in a head-on collision. Donnie Day is still in Holston Valley Medical Center in fair to good condition. Connie Day was reportedly released from the hospital.

The riders of the other ATV, Randall and Melvina Bowman, were able to attend the vigil Friday night with around 20 others at Whitetail Campground at the park.
