A Cumberland man was arrested on Sunday on charges that include assaulting a police officer.

Billy Lewis, 39, was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

According to Cumberland City Police officer Kenny Raleigh, Lewis was making a scene by being loud. He was told that he was under arrest, and then he jerked away.

The citation stated that Lewis attacked Raleigh, taking the officer to the ground, along with himself.

Lewis was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center without bond.
