The Evarts middle school boys cross country team finished its season last weekend with the state middle school championship meet at the Meet of Champions in Lexington. The day also featured elementary and high school races.
Evarts' Hunter Middleton and Chris Begley started the day by running in the elementary school 3K run. Middleton placed 22nd in the field of 422 runners, posting a time of 12:21.83. Begley finished 76th with a time of 13:09.66. Fifth-grader Austin Begley also participated in the race, posting a time of 17:38.01 and finishing 388th.
Middleton and Chris Begley were back in action a short time later along with their teammates in the middle school 4K race, which boasted a field of 487 runners.
Middleton, a sixth-grader, led the team with a 108th-place finish, posting a time of 15:43.09. Eighth-grader Justin Baird placed 184th with a time of 16:24.82. Rounding out Evarts' results in the race were Haydn Jones (217th, 16:49.13), Nick Morris (221st, 16:50.49) and Chris Begley (261st, 17:12.54).
Evarts placed 27th out of 61 teams in the middle school competition, which was won by North Oldham Middle School.
In the girls Class A 5K race, Whitney Taylor led Evarts, finishing 60th in a field of 114 runners with a time of 23:32.63. She was followed by Kelli Reed, who finished 75th with a time of 24:30.37. Rounding out Evarts' results were Samantha Whitehead (110th, 29:15.32) and Samantha Sawyers (113th, 31:33.63).
