A man who allegedly used a weapon to rob an Evarts store has confessed and turned himself in, according to the Evarts Police Department.
Evarts police said Tony Sizemore entered Movies To Go at 3 p.m. on Friday and told an employee to open the cash register just before he pulled a knife. When the employee refused, Sizemore proceeded to open the drawer himself.
After gathering money from the drawer, Sizemore ran, police said.
Police searched for Sizemore for nearly an hour before he turned himself in at the Evarts Police Department, police said.
Police, however, were unable to recover the stolen cash or the weapon, which Sizemore said he tossed in the river.
Sizemore was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a charge of first-degree robbery.
Assistant chief Michael Boggs responded to the incident. Kentucky State Police trooper Marcus Williams and Officer Marvin Lipfird of the Harlan Police Department also assisted.
The incident remains under investigation.
