James Walker Morris, 78, Michigan City, Ind., died Dec. 24, 2005, at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.

A native of Cumberland, he was retired from Joy Manufacturing. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion John Franklin Miller Post No. 37. He was also a member of the Fellowship Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Greene and Luria Allen Morris; a son, Stanely Delane Morris; six brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Purgin; a son, Leslie Wayne Morris and wife, Denise, Las Vegas; a daughter, Belinda Schnick and husband, Marshall, LaPorte, Ind.; six grandchildren: Shane Hale; Jeff and Amy Morris; and Matt, Craig and Meredith Schnick; two brothers: Hollie Morris and wife, Ethel, Cumberland; and J.C. Morris, Michigan City, Ind.; two sisters: Beulah Collier, Cumberland; and Angel King and husband, Terry, Florence.

Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carlisle Funeral Home.

John Franklin Post No. 37, American Legion will conduct a memorial service today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Lorne Hodum officiating.

Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind., with American Legion John Franklin Miller Post No. 37 conducting full military rites.

Memorials may be made to Fellowship Assembly of God Church or Dunebrook.
