A native of Greensboro, Johnston worked for the Arnold Stone Company in Greensboro as a bookkeeper, pay master and secretary. She was also employed by the Environmental Protection Agency. Later she worked and retired from the Macke Company in Raleigh, N.C., where she was an accountant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Crawley Bray and Nona Roxana Andrew Bray; four brothers: Clarence Jackson Bray, George Poindexter Bray, Thomas Cone Bray and Dan Wills Bray; one sister, Elizabeth Beatrice Bray Childress; and a former husband, Robert Lee Johnston Sr.

Survivors include two daughters: Dr. Judith J. Leonard and husband, the Rev. Barry Leonard, Harlan; and Rhonda McKay and husband, Thomas McKay, Beaufort, S.C., and Fuquay Varina; one grandson, Quinton Thomas Leonard, Louisville; and two great-granddaughters: Olivia Mae Leonard and Alicia Renae Leonard, both of Louisville.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Cary at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Visitation will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

After the burial the family will receive friends and family at the home of Donald and Anita Carson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Resource Development Office of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College for the Edna Bray Johnston Scholarship Endowment Fund.
