A native of Corbin, she had lived most of her life in Harlan. She was a homemaker and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. She was well known for her role in the Harlan County Democrat Party and was the Harlan County Precinct Committee Chairwoman for 59 years. She was also a member of the Harlan County Democrat Ladies Club and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was also active in numerous charities and organizations until her health kept her from it. She was a member of the Loyall Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.F. and Birt Tolliver McDonald; her husband, Park B. Howard; and a son-in-law, Clyde Spradlin.
Survivors include four loving children: Joel Howard Sr. and wife, Ethel, Dayhoit; Patricia Shope and husband, Ralph, Somerset; Wanda Sue Spradlin, Somerset; and Helen Ellison and husband, Randy Sr., Dayhoit; grandchildren: Joel Howard Jr., Stephen Dwayne Howard, Desa Blanton, Ralph Edward Shope, Brandon Shope, Gregory Spradlin Sr., Burt Spradlin, Alan Spradlin, Melissa Dean, Randy Ellison Jr., Robbie Ellison and Britt Ellison; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; her cousins: June Browning, Jack Tolliver, Betty Reyburn and Faye Moore; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Simpson officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
