A native of Roark, she had lived in Harlan County most of her life. She had been the housekeeper and caretaker for the P.O. Lewis family for 23 years. She believed in the Holiness faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Roark Shepherd and Matt Shepherd; a sister, Georgia Vaughn; and two brothers: Sheldon Shepherd and Lewis Shepherd.
Survivors include eight children: Hubert Phillips, Kildav; Estle Phillips, Jonesville, Va.; Dennis Phillips and wife, Bobbie, Smith; Jean Koonce, Tullahoma, Tenn.; Kermit Phillips and wife, Linde, Abingdon, Va.; Louanna Turner, Bristol, Va.; Rose Mary Phillips, Clinchburg, Va.; and Jeannie Brock, Kildav; a daughter-in-law, Mary Phillips, Kildav; a sister, Gussie Mills, Kildav; and two brothers: Donle Shepherd and wife, Helen, Roark; and John Shepherd, Eastbrook; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Evarts Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Saylor officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jack's Creek Cemetery in Leslie County.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
