Candidate arrested on theft charge

A candidate in the county's 5th District magisterial race was arrested Sunday night on an indictment warrant for theft of services and receiving stolen property under $300.

Bobby Greene, 41, of Wallins, has been accused of supplying electricity to houses unlawfully and having Kentucky Utilities property in his possession, according to assistant Commonwealth's Attorney J.D. Smith.

Both of the charges against Greene are misdemeanors. He was investigated by Kentucky State Police Det. Mike Cornett.

Greene was arrested on the indictment warrant by Harlan County Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Lunsford. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.

In other police news:

-- Harlan City Police officers investigated a possible armed robbery early Sunday morning at Home Federal Bank.

The robbery allegedly occurred when an employee of Pizza Hut was making a night deposit at the bank's Village Center branch.

Sgt. Winston Yeary said the alleged robbery occurred just after 1 a.m.

Sgt. Frank Doan and officer Marvin Lipfird are investigating the incident.

The following people were arrested on indictment warrants:

-- Brandon Adams, 25, of Wallins, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.

He was arrested by Harlan County sheriff's deputy David Williams with bond set at $5,500.

-- Joshua W. Griffith, 21, of Evarts, is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.

He was arrested by deputy Eddie Jones with bond set at $45,000.

-- Scott J. Huff, 37, of Evarts, is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence (first offense), reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested by Jones with bond set at $29,000.

-- Sherry J. Jones, 47, of Loyall, is charged with receiving stolen property.

Bond is set at 10 percent of $10,000.

-- Fred M. Jones, 51, of Loyall, is charged with receiving stolen property over $300.

Bond is set at $10,000.

-- Christopher Lee Lindsay, 22, of Evarts, is charged with second-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking.

Bond is set at $25,000.

-- Darnell Middleton, 35, of Evarts, is charged with receiving stolen property over $300.

Bond is set at 10 percent of $10,000.

-- Mark Middleton, 39, of Evarts, is charged with receiving stolen property over $300.

Bond is set at $10,000.

-- Michael North, 30, of Loyall, is charged with first-degree criminal mischief and receiving stolen property over $300.

Bond is set at $17,500.

-- Jerry Wayne Osborne, 57, of Harlan, is charged with flagrant non-support.

He was arrested by deputy Kenneth Sergent with bond set at $15,000.

-- Brandon Shackleford, 21, of Evarts, is charged with sexual misconduct.

Bond is set at 10 percent of $10,000.

-- Willard Smith Jr., 43, of Kenvir, is charged with theft by unlawful taking and third-degree criminal mischief.

Bond is set at 10 percent of $5,000.

-- Joseph Stanton, 25, of Evarts, is charged with second-degree escape, second-degree fleeing or evading police, DUI, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and being a persistent felony offender.

Bond is set at $37,500.

-- Jacqueline Thomas, 42, of Harlan, is charged with first-degree bail jumping.

Bond is set at $15,000.

-- Christopher Weedman, 19, of Evarts, is charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and public intoxication.

Bond is set at $6,000.
