Howard Glen Shepherd, 67, London, formerly of Cumberland, died Oct. 7, 2006, at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Letcher County, served twice as mayor in Cumberland and owned Shepherd Home Furnishings in Cumberland, as well as Shepherd Auto in Harlan and Cumberland.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Fields Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 832 in Cumberland. He was a Shriner in the Oleika Temple in Lexington, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Hurricane Gap Old Regular Baptist Church in Gordon.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Fleenor Shepherd; two sons: Glen E. Shepherd and wife, Cecilia, London; and Mark A. Shepherd and wife, Jodie, Richmond; four brothers: Darrell Shepherd, Richmond; Jim Shepherd, Cumberland; Leonard Shepherd Jr., Richmond; and Rudolph Shepherd, Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sisters: Sara Boggs, Cumberland; and Bernice Camacho, Cincinnati; three grandchildren: Jackie Shepherd, Sam Shepherd and Lauren Shepherd; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, with services at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Charles Troy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery.
