A native and lifelong resident of Evarts, he was a graduate of Evarts High School. He had worked as a coal miner at various mines in Harlan County.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eric Madden; his maternal grandparents, Sally and Irvin Dodson; and his paternal grandfather, Burley Madden.
Survivors include his parents, Frieda Dodson Madden and Harold Madden, Evarts; his wife, Charlina Cox Madden, Pineville; three children: Jamie Madden, Evarts; James Kevin Madden Jr. and Erica Lashay Madden, both of Pineville; two step-children: Alex Hoskins, Harrogate, Tenn.; and Timothy Lee Hughes Jr., Pineville; his grandmother, Geneva Hamilton, Pineville; two sisters: Melissa Hough and husband, Robert, Louisville; and Michelle Madden, Louisville; a sister-in-law, Kristie Jones Madden, Evarts; nieces and nephews: Joshua and Sarah Coe; Emily Hough; Cherish Jones; Katie and Paul Boatright Jr.; Carry Sue; Linda and Kerry Partin Jr.; and Anna Faye Cox; his mother-in-law and her fiance, Anna Sue Key and James Orr, Speedwell, Tenn.; and special friends: Julia and Paul Boatright, Speedwell, Tenn.; and Joyce Partin, Evarts.
Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. C.B. Rezek officiating.
Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens.
Demetrius Eleftherios, Rob Hough, Steve Spivey, Mike Madden and other friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
