John H. "Earl" Miniard, 83, Harlan, died Dec. 12, 2007, at Harlan ARH Hospital.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. Miniard was also a logger and a truck driver until his retirement. He believed in the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Alma Miniard; a brother, Murphy Miniard; and his parents, Joseph R. and Nancy Ann Miniard.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gladys Slusher Miniard; a son, William J. "Joe" Miniard and wife, Karen, Elizabethtown; his daughters: Rose Marie Rains and husband, Gary, Teetersville; and Earlesa Ann Miniard, Fresh Meadows; a stepson, John R. Woje and wife, Tammy, Baxter; sisters: Thelma Mae Jackson and Alpha Estridge, Crossville, Tenn.; his brothers: William Randall "Darrell" Miniard and wife, Marybelle, Greasy Creek; and Major Miniard and wife, Carol, Miamisburg, Ohio; five grandchildren: John William Phelps, Louisville; Justin Earl Miniard, Fresh Meadows; Allison Elizabeth Miniard, Kaitlin Marie Miniard and Cody Joseph Miniard, all of Elizabethtown; and many beloved nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rich Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rodney Freeman officiating.

Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Miniard Family Cemetery at Napier with the Rev. Gene Harris officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
