After receiving complaints of alleged drug dealing at a residence in the Florida Addition of Evarts, the Kentucky State Police arrested Chris Kelly on Saturday following an investigation of the illegal sale of OxyContin.
Kelly, 24, of Evarts, was charged on a warrant for first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. The investigation of Kelly was led by KSP trooper Edward Abner. He was assisted by Evarts Chief of Police Lupe Blas.
"I have received a lot of complaints on Mr. Kelly over the last couple of months, that he was allegedly selling drugs from a residence near the Evarts Church of God and Evarts High School," Abner said.
According to Abner, the residence where Kelly was arrested is on McCoy Street, and he's only been staying there for a couple of months with a friend.
Abner said through his investigation of Kelly, he gathered enough information to obtain a warrant for his arrest.
According to the warrant, Kelly had allegedly sold a 20 mg OxyContin.
Abner, along with the assistance of KSP Sgt. Damon Gayheart, trooper Bryan Johnson and Blas, executed the warrant at the residence on McCoy Street.
Abner said the officers searched the residence and Kelly's vehicle, which was equipped with a Florida license plate. Several items were confiscated.
There were various guns in Kelly's vehicle, including a shotgun, rifle and a pistol. After running a check on the guns through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Abner said that none of them came back as stolen.
Abner said the items confiscated during the search will be sent to the state crime lab for proper identification. He said after his investigation is concluded, he will be presenting it to a Harlan County Grand Jury.
Kelly was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
