He was a Loyall High School graduate, a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Kentucky National Guard for over 25 years, a Graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Radiology, a former X-Ray Tech at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, formerly employed by Mountain Trail Health Plan, a Business Office Supervisor at the Daniel Boone Clinic, a ARH Home Care Store Manager, a former Chairman of the Board of ARH Credit Union, a Member of Howard Masonic Lodge, Oleika Shrine Temple and Knights Templar, a Kentucky Coronal, an Official for the KHSAA for over 30 years and coached Little League Baseball and Senior League Baseball.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Cam and Stella Smith Howard, his wife Etta Sizemore Howard, his sons, Jeffery Darrell Howard and Charles Bruce Howard.
He is survived by: his son, Mike and wife, Jennifer Howard, Lexington, KY; his grandchildren, Jeffery Charles Howard, Camron Daniel Howard and Connor Howard; Lexington, KY; his brother, David and wife, Florence Howard, Rosspoint; his sisters, Doris Davenport, Rosspoint; Sue and husband Hal King, Hopkinsville, KY; his nieces, Kristi Henderson, Lori Disney, Devin Coats, Karen Davenport and Lisa Broche; his nephews, Kelly Davenport and Steve King.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 21, 2007 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Rich Funeral Home with Harry Coultas officiating. Burial will follow at Howard Cemetery at Rosspoint with military rights by the Harlan County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Erik Canady, Mike Bates, N.S. Guy, James Allen, Chuck Head, Don White and Elmer Reynolds. Visitation is Thursday from 6-9 at Rich Funeral Home.
Donations suggested to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the Harlan County Honor Guard.
