She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lina Boggs Scott; four brothers, Talmadge Scott, Clyde Scott, Winfield Scott and Clemon Scott; one sister, Hattie Christy; and her beloved son, Roger Wayne Collier.
She was a native of Rhoda, VA. Lela was a school teacher at Franks Creek during World War II; school secretary at Eolia Elementary; a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She was a faithful member of the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church of Cowan.
Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years 11 months, Orville Collier, Sr., Partridge; one son, Orville (Valus) Collier, Jr., Cumberland; daughter in law, Wanda Collier, Partridge; one brother, Sam Scott, Jr., Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Jennifer Diane Collier (Rick) Watts, Partridge, Jeffrey Wayne (Jenny) Collier, Somerset, Greg (Kim) Collier, Harlan, and Brian (Sherry) Collier, Lexington; seven great-grandchildren, Chapman Collier, Katie Collier, Morgan Collier, Jill Collier, Blake Watts, Issiah Collier, and Abby Collier plus a host of nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held 6-9pm Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Tri City Funeral Home in Benham. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Friday, November 2, 2007 in the Chapel of Tri City Funeral Home with the Rev Woodrow Fields, Rev Oscar Irving and Rev Rod Raleigh officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery, Holly Ridge Cemetery at Colliers Creek in Partridge.
Greg Collier, Brian Collier, Jeff Collier, Randall Collier, Daniel Boggs, Jimmy Darrell Scott and Randy Scott will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Watts, Rick Watts, Issiah Collier, Chapman Collier and Keith Owens.
