The honors continue rolling in for Harlan High School, which celebrated a recent bronze star selection by U.S. News & World Report during a program Friday at the school.

The national magazine honored high schools around the nation, analyzing 18,790 public schools in 40 states. Harlan was one of 23 schools chosen in Kentucky.

The prestigious selection adds another banner in the Harlan gymnasium to go with those for the school's ranking at or near the top of several categories on the statewide CATS tests.

As Superintendent David Johnson pointed out Friday, the hard work of the students and staff and the high expectations of parents are important factors in the school's, as well as the district's, continued success.

Excellent leadership, both from the superintendent and principal, as well as the city school board, also play a big role.

Congratulations are in order, as well as the hope for continued success in academics extending throughout our county and region.
