Two arrested as police execute a search warrant at Kitts

Police arrested two women Saturday night in Kitts on drug charges following the execution of a search warrant.

The search warrant obtained by Harlan County sheriff's deputy Eddie Jones led to the arrest of Kendra Latham, 20, of Harlan, and Tara Boyce, 23, of Asheville, N.C.

Sheriff deputies and officers from the Harlan City Police Department performed a search at Latham's residence that allegedly yielded an unsubstantiated amount of marijuana, a set of scales, other miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia, $2,132 in cash and a handgun.

Latham and Boyce were charged with trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The women were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by sheriff's Det. Jason Snelling.

In other police news:

n Kevin Burkhart, 22, and Ashley Nicole Burkhart, 22, both of Evarts, were arrested by Jones on first-degree trafficking a controlled substance charges.

The Burkharts were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

n Theodore Fox, 35, of Evarts, was arrested by deputy Josh Howard on charges of two counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, one count of tampering with physical evidence, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear.

Fox was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
