Paul Asher, 86 of Baxter went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Rockcastle County Hospital in Mt. Vernon, KY.

He was born in Leslie County (Bowens Creek) KY. to the late Rev. Waldon and Martha Ann Lewis Asher. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ova, Henry, Oscar and Joe Asher; three sisters, Ophie Hensley, Mary Hensley and Polly Blevins.

A retired coal miner, Paul was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman who was in awe of all God’s creations. He was a dedicated family man who is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Belle Hensley Asher of Baxter; six children, Waldon Asher and wife Rubena of Jamestown, KY, Eugene Asher and wife Kathryn of Wallins, Norma Asher and husband Leonard Joe of Catrons Creek, Margaret Bowman of Catrons Creek, Paula Johnson and husband Paul of Baxter, Juanita Ball and husband Earl of Ages; fourteen grandchildren, Barbara, David, William and Bill Asher, Lisa Sullivan, Allyson Caldwell, Joe Paul and Mary Edith Asher, Stephanie Jordan, Todd and Tyler Bowman, Rachel and Laura Johnson, Katelin Ball; Eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Maltie Sizemore of London, KY and Cartha Ann Swertfegger of Toledo, OH; Brother-in-law, Sam Hensley, Sister-in-law, Rose Asher; and special nephews, Byrd Elis, Charles Edward and Gilbert Jr. Hensley. He also leaves several other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.

Visitation for Paul Asher will be held Tuesday August 26, 2008 from 6 until 9 at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday August 27, 2008 in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Reverends Joe Howard and Sheldon Collett officiating.

Burial will then follow in the Hensley Cemetery at Smith, KY.

Pallbearers will be Joe Paul Asher, David Asher, Todd Bowman, Tyler Bowman, Bill Asher, George Caldwell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Hensley, Earl Ball, Sr., Tip Baker, Shelton Smith, Charlie Wattenberger and the Harlan Co. Honor Guard.
