Raymond Powell Jenkins, 64, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Ray was a native of Lynch, KY and had lived most of his life in Harlan County. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He was a teacher for over thirty-six years; a football and basketball coach for many years; and had dedicated his life to his family and to educating the young people in this area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Thomas and Elizabeth Cain Jenkins.

Survivors include his wife, Lily Augusta Jenkins, Cumberland; four sons: Anthony Edward Jenkins and wife, Stephanie, three children, Anthony, Taylor, and Tye, Lynch; Robert Thomas Jenkins and wife, Terri, two children: Zachary and Destinee, Cumberland; Raymond Todd Jenkins and wife, Beth, a daughter, Brooklynn, Tazewell, TN; Travis John Jenkins, Cumberland; a brother, Edgar Thomas Jenkins and wife, Sharon, Knoxville, TN; a sister, Charlotte Orr, Lexington; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at Cumberland Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the church with Rev. Mike Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland.

David Orr, John Orr, Jim Orr, Bobby Rutherford, Merrill Galloway, David Sexton, Tim Saylor, Kenny Ray Raleigh and Doug Trammell will serve as pallbearers.
