Lige Simpson, 90, of Fresh Meadows, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008, at his residence.

He was a native of Leslie County and had lived in Michigan for many years where he retired from General Motors. He was also a coal miner and a carpenter for Pope-Cawood in Harlan he also was a disabled U.S. Navy Veteran having served in WWII and believed in the Pentecostal faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susie Simpson; two sons, Benny Marvin Simpson and Bobby Ray Simpson; his parents, Milton Simpson and Susie Caldwell Simpson; one granddaughter, Tonya Sue Haywood and son-in-law, Oscar Haywood, Jr.; nine brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by one daughter, Myrtle Jean Haywood, Fresh Meadows; one sister, Tishia Napier, Tazewell, TN; six grandchildren: Jeffery Allen Haywood, Bobby Wayne Haywood both of Fresh Meadows; Karen Renee Haywood and Daniel Brown, Taylor, MI; Douglas Bernard Simpson and wife Kim, Wayne, MI; Wendy Lynn Simpson, Howell, MI and Ashley Simpson, West, VA.

Also surviving is a special sister-in-law, Sudie Collins Simpson, Keith and a host of nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Loyall funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in the chapel of Loyall Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Bailey and the Rev. Joe Simpson Jr. officiating.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Harlan County Memorial Gardens, Fresh Meadows.

Harlan County Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
