The occupants of the 2007 Toyota Yaris included three Bell County High School students and a junior college student.
Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Walt Meachum said the teens were on their way to march in the Middlesboro Christmas parade when the wreck occurred.
Some of the victims were reportedly members of the Air Force Junior ROTC Program at Bell County High School. The deceased are 18-year-old Jonathan Miracle, of Miracle; 16-year-olds Jessica and Wesley Ingram, of Pineville; and 15-year-old Daniel Campbell, of Blackmont.
Meachum said Miracle was traveling south in the Toyota, and inclement weather caused him to lose control and cross into the northbound lane of U.S. 25E, striking a 2008 Peterbilt coal truck operated by Dwight Robinson Jr., 34, of Tyner.
Meachum said the occupants of the Toyota were wearing seat belts, and drugs or alcohol are not expected to be a factor at this time. Robinson was not injured in the crash, which occurred around 1 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer Greg Reams.
Reams was assisted by the Kentucky State Police, Pineville Police Department, Pineville Fire Department, Bell County Rescue Squad, Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Bell County Fire Department and Bell County EMS.
